A Word from Sue

My heart is unbelievably full today! I think I have at least three DD articles in me, but I will condense them into one.

First of all, yesterday was such an outstanding day! I can't pull out enough adjectives to describe what all of it meant to me. Seeing so many folks arriving into Century Hall where we began, and seeing all of them out in the new Sanctuary was so very exciting. Hearing the music ring out from the organ (welcome back, Miriam), the Choir, AireMale, and the Brass, in that place so acoustically alive brought chills to my body.

The Building Committee and some others had seen the restoration from the beginning and knew what to expect. However, last week I realized that many of you would not know what to expect on Sunday. And I'm sure that some of you were surprised by what you saw. You may have even been shocked. You may have been unhappy. I know you will need time to get accustomed to the changes that have taken place. I pray you will come to love and value this new space.

About the Building Committee...they worked SO HARD last week, running out to buy mirrors, installing the art glass across the back of the Sanctuary, covering electrical hardware on the ceiling, painting and on and on. There is something important I observed about the folks on that Committee (Dan Adams, John Garnier, Donna Marks, Ron Schoen and Bob Sieck): their incredible faithfulness to the task ought to inspire everyone who takes on a task at the church. They have been meeting weekly, on Thursday mornings, since mid-December, 2006. There was the occasional Thursday when they didn't meet, and everyone had to miss a few times. Meeting weekly was the standard to which they kept! I have to wonder what it would be mean if all of us at DACC could see our life in the church with that determined faithfulness.

Finally, this is my last article until the November 11th issue. My time of renewal begins next Monday. I will miss you and think of you and pray for you. However, you and I won't be in touch with each other during this time, and I hope you will honor that. Please don't try to contact me either by phone or email. (Also, please don't send me forwarded emails, even if they are clever or informative.)

I hope, while I am away, you will try new things in all of your ministries and in worship and any place else you can think of. Find out what our new technology can do for us. I know you will enjoy David Livingston and his leadership and ministry with you.

May God bless Downey Avenue Christian Church in all things and in all ways,Sue
